Self-Guided
Sitka Blacktail Deer

This self-guided hunt for Sitka blacktail deer takes place on the Prince of Wales Island, Southeast Alaska. The Sitka blacktail deer offer a unique hunting experience, and Prince of Wales Island is the best place to pursue a record book buck. The island has a very healthy deer population. The state issues up to 4 deer tags a year over the counter so there is no need to apply for a draw. Overall success for rifle hunters has been over 100% on bucks averaging 90-100”. Hunting methods include spot and stalk, as well as calling. In the fall, as the rut approaches, the bucks will often respond to fawn distress calls or doe bleats. The best time to hunt is late October into mid-November. This hunting package includes a cabin, which sleeps up to four people, and a vehicle to use during your stay to explore the island. There are facilities available to process, vacuum pack, and freeze your game. Hunting licenses and tags can be purchased online or when you arrive.
